Ruth E. (Kinney) Heckaman, age 95, died on Wednesday afternoon, October 15, 2008, at Columbia City, Indiana. A resident of Oak Pointe apartments since 2000, she spent her adult life in German Township, Marshall County, Indiana, as a farm wife and mother. Ruth graduated from Nappanee High School, Class of 1929. Ruth and her husband John traveled extensively abroad, as well as having visited most of the 50 states. Although they traveled widely, they returned again and again to Lindy Lake in the northwoods of Wisconsin, a favorite place. Ruth was a member of Marshall County Daughters of the American Revolution, grateful for the sacrifices her family made when they came to Pennsylvania from Switzerland in the 1700’s; a member of Marshall County Extension Homemakers, and a life-long Lutheran active in her congregational activities.
Ruth was born to W. William and Eunice (Eby) Kinney in Nappanee Indiana on December 26, 1912. She was married to John D. Heckaman who died in 2006 and was the mother of four children: Marshall (Sharon) Heckaman of Columbia City, Indiana and Dorothy (Dr. Henry) Anderson of Rockford, Illinois, who survive her and two other daughters, Jeanette (Jack) Chidister, and Berdine (Dr. Norman) Asper who predeceased her. She is further survived by ten grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great granddaughter. Ruth was predeceased by 2 grandsons, and one great granddaughter, as well as three sisters; Louella Rifner; Mildred Egolf and Mary Anderson and four brothers; Robert Kinney, Pat Kinney, Edgar Kinney and Richard Kinney. Services conducted by Rev. Diana Siegel will be held at Johnson Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth, Indiana on Saturday, October 18, at 11:30 a.m. preceded by visitation from 9:30 a.m. until time of services. Burial will follow in the Bremen Cemetery.
