Ruth Eckman

Ruth Eckman, 84, passed away at 1:05 a.m. on Wednesday May 23, 2018 at Miller’s Merry Manor in Plymouth.

She was born in Mishawaka, Indiana on August 13, 1933 to Anthony and Vera L. (Richter) Krivanek.

Ruth would marry David Sigrist in 1949 and they would have three children: Connie, Susan and Kevin.

In her early years, she worked as a cashier for Widmar Market and Lowery Grocery Store in South Bend.

On April 29, 1973, Ruth would become the bride of Ramon C. “Dusty” Eckman in the Cathedral of St. James Episcopal Church in South Bend. While being a homemaker, she also worked for Jedi Trucking, Inc. in Plymouth as a dispatcher and office worker.

An avid cleaner, Ruth took pride in her tidy and spotless home. She loved to cook and being with her grandchildren. She enjoyed crocheting, watching Dusty empire softball games, was a football fan and enjoyed going to Plymouth Rockies football games, as well as, attending her own grandchildren’s sporting events. She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Plymouth and the VFW Post 1162 Ladies Auxiliary.

Ruth is survived by her husband, Dusty Eckman of Plymouth and their children: Connie (DeVon) Smith of South Bend, Susan Biltz of Wakarusa, Kevin Sigrist of Kentucky, Aaron (Debra) Eckman of South Carolina, Michael Eckman of South Carolina, Sonjia Eckman of Plymouth, Ramon K. Eckman of Florida and Brian (Cindy) Eckman of Michigan; 27 grandchildren, 60 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her former spouse, David Sigrist, her parents, granddaughter, Ruth Sigrist, great-grandson, Aaron T. Eckman Sr., sisters and her twin brother.

Visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. on Friday May 25, 2018 at Calvary Lutheran Church, 1314 N. Michigan Street, Plymouth. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. with Pastor Eric Ahlemeyer officiating.

Burial will be in the Riverview Cemetery in South Bend at a later date.
