Sandra Sue Cartwright

Sandra Sue (Pontius) Cartwright, 68, of Plymouth, IN passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 7, 2024, with loved ones by her side.

Sandy was born on April 27, 1956 in South Bend, IN to Robert and Wanda (Gouker) Pontius. Sandy is survived by her mother, Wanda; her husband, Jack Cartwright, whom she married on August 22, 1981; her daughter and son-in-law, Jillian and Steven Boyer of Warsaw, IN; her two sons, Matthew Cartwright of Plymouth, IN and Kyle Cartwright of Westfield, IN; her three grandsons, Hudson, Weston, and Lincoln Boyer; and her granddaughter. Sandy is also survived by two brothers, Steve (Terri) Pontius of South Bend, IN and Scott (Shellie) Pontius of Port Orange, FL.

Sandy was preceded in death by her father, Robert Pontius, who passed away on October 10, 2022.

Jack and Sandy built a home in Plymouth shortly after marriage where they raised their three children. Jack worked for 40 years as a Business Services Technician for United Telephone Company, and Sandy worked for the same company as a Switchboard Operator. In August 1998, Sandy began working for Plymouth Community School Corporation, and she worked there until she retired as Administrative Assistant and Treasurer of Lincoln Junior High School in May 2023. Sandy was an adoring mother. She and Jack spent years traveling and watching their children participate in cheerleading, hockey, tennis, baseball, and many other activities. When Jack and Sandy weren’t busy with their children’s activities, Sandy was hosting gatherings for friends and family, playing slot machines with her mom and dad, shopping with her daughter, planting flowers around the house, or telling stories about her sons’ hockey careers.

During retirement, Sandy had the opportunity to do what she loved most. She spent time with Jack and her children and grandchildren, cared for her parents, sunbathed by her swimming pool, travelled to Florida, claimed to have won every time she played the slot machines at Four Winds Casino, and finally purchased her own Netflix subscription.

Sandy lived happily and loved deeply. All who know and love her will cherish her memory forever.

A visitation for Sandy will be held on July 14, 2024 from 2:00 to 6:00 PM at Lincoln Junior High School, 830 Gibson St., Plymouth, IN 46563. Sandy’s funeral service will be held at Lincoln Junior High School on July 15, 2024 at 11:00 AM. A brief graveside service will immediately follow at Oak Hill Cemetery, 1300 Chester St., Plymouth, IN 46563.

Sandy’s family has established a memorial fund in her honor through the Marshall County Community Foundation.
