Sarah Jane Gibbs

September 24, 1980 — December 20, 2014

Sarah Jane Gibbs, 34, daughter of Plymouth residents, Howard E. and Betty P. (Glaub) Gibbs, passed away at her home early Saturday December 20, 2014. She had been a resident of the Warsaw area most of her lifetime.

Sarah Jane was born on September 24, 1980 at 3:04 a.m. on an unusually warm day in Plymouth, Indiana. She soon joined a brother Eric at home, age 5 to the day. By her age of 3, it was determined that Sarah Jane had been experiencing signs of autism. From there she and her family would experience a life filled with challenges and the wonder of talented gifts.

In 1984 the family moved to the Kosciusko County community of Atwood. Through years of dedicated care by her family, school teachers and staff of Cardinal’s supportive living, Sarah Jane was able to complete school and graduate from Warsaw High School. She then attained an independent living status which she truly enjoyed and the family acknowledges Cardinal Services for those years of providing them comfort with her extended care.

Her talents surfaced early and by the age of six, Sarah Jane displayed her musical abilities and played or ‘rocked out’ on first the organ and then keyboard all by ear and perfect pitch after simply listening to a program or a song and often treated the family to a session of Pat Benatar at sometimes unusual hours. She had no favorite anything and enjoyed classical music as well. She would often be mesmerized by programs, movies, movie lines and theme songs like that from All Dogs Go to Heaven. She had a vast collection of movies and an overwhelming ability to recall not only film and other media trivia but could tell you the weather on any given day and provide you the exact time and date of her last Doctor appointment. She attended the Warsaw First Brethren Church.

Sarah Jane spent a great deal of time at the Kosciusko Community YMCA immersed in a variety of exercise classes and over a period of time lost 100 pounds.

She is survived by her parents Howard and Betty (Glaub) Gibbs of Plymouth, brother Eric M. Gibbs and Jennifer Bradley of Warsaw with Dylan, Dominic and Reagan as nephews and niece. Her paternal grandmother Rosemary Tatich of Bremen and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends also survive.

Preceding her in death were her maternal grandparents Walter & Margaret Glaub, paternal grandfather Howard E. Gibbs II, aunt Margo Morris and cousin Ian Berger.

Family and friends will come together to celebrate the life of Sarah Jane Gibbs on Friday, December 26th from 5 – 7 p.m. in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth. A memorial service will take place there at 7 p.m.

Preferred are memorial gifts to Cardinal Services Inc., 504 North Bay Drive, Warsaw, IN 46580 or Kosciusko Community YMCA 1401 E. Smith St., Warsaw, IN 46580.
