Shirley Louise Kinney

Shirley Louise Kinney, 89, born to Herman and Thelma (Rensberger) Jaqua in South Bend, IN on March 31, 1935 passed away on Tuesday, July 2, 2024. 

Shirley was united in marriage with Paul Kinney on December 14, 1956. Following a life filled with love and companionship, Paul preceded her in death on April 29, 2011. 

Throughout her professional journey, Shirley held various secretarial roles that showcased her commitment to hard work. She contributed her skills at the Studebaker Corporation in South Bend Indiana during the 1950’s and later at Food Giant Markets upon moving to California. Her dedication to secretarial work led her to serve several doctors as a medical transcriber in California and later as a legal secretary for Independence Company in Reno, Nevada. Even after retirement, she continued working at L.S. Ayres Company in South Bend before relocating to Bakersfield in 2013 to be closer to her son. 

Those privileged to know Shirley recognized her as an individual of integrity and kindness. She spent considerable time expanding the range of her cuisine’s by attending cooking classes. In moments of leisure, she found joy in shopping excursions and finding a good bargain. At home, she leisurely played the piano, watched old movies, and visited with family. While Paul was alive, he held a membership with the Shrine Club, where Shirley loved volunteering her time for many different roles. 

Shirley’s legacy is deeply cherished by all who were touched by her warmth and generosity. She will be fondly remembered for her unwavering dedication to both her family and professional endeavors. 

Shirley will be missed by her son Steven, his wife Ingrid, and her grandchildren, Erika and Estevan Kinney. 

Shirley will be laid to rest at New Oak Hill Cemetery in Plymouth, IN on Friday, July 19, 2024 at 11AM with Life Celebrant Jim Smart officiating.
