Shirley A. Poor, 63, died at her residence, 14012 11th Road, Plymouth, after a long and courageous battle with cancer at 4:15 p.m. on Saturday 4, 2010.
A lifetime Marshall County resident, Shirley was born in Burr Oak, Ind., on October 2, 1947. She was the daughter of Earl and Myrtle Whitesell Johnson.
She graduated from Aubbeenaubbee High School.
On March 18, 1967, in Plymouth, she and Arthur Poor were married.
Shirley worked in House Keeping and Environmental Services at Pilgrim Manor Nursing Home for 17 years.
She loved having children around. She was a Sunday school teacher and was a foster parent to several children for a number of years.
Shirley loved flowers, angels, dolls and gardening. She was adept and enjoyed ceramics.
She was a member of the House of Prayer Church, and formerly the Argos Church of Jesus Christ.
She is survived by Arthur (Art) her husband and their five children. They are Karen (Jeff) Samuels, Plymouth: Mike (Angie) Poor, South Whitley, Ind.: Jason (Serena) Poor, Dakota Poor and Hunter Poor, all of Plymouth. Nine grandchildren also survive.
Three sisters, four brothers, and two half- sisters survive as well.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents and two half-brothers.
Friends are invited to celebrate Shirley’s life from 4 to 8 p.m on Wednesday, December 8, 2010, at the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.
Funeral Services for Shirley will by held on Thursday, December 9, 2010, at 2 p.m. in the House of Prayer, 12450 Plymouth-Goshen Trail. The Rev. Ronald D. Humphrey, pastor of the church, will officiate.
Interment will be in New Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth.
