Sister Laura Banet, P.H.J.C., 81, passed away Wednesday, August 13, 2008 at her home in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana and was a member of the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ for 60 years. Sister Laura ministered for 38 as a teacher at many schools in Indiana, Minnesota, and Illinois. In 1988 she started as a chaplain at St. Joseph Hospital, Fort Wayne and later worked at the information desk. She currently volunteered at the hospital as well as a tutor for the Literacy Alliance and the Senior Guild at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. She spent several years tagging and studying Monarch butterflies. Survivors include brother, Rev. Paul Banet, Galveston, Texas; sister, Victorine (James) Malsbury of Arcadia, Florida; sister-in-law, Joan Banet of Fort Wayne. She was preceded in death by her parents Henry A. and Marie Banet; brothers, Rev. Charles Banet and Lawrence Banet; sisters, Mary Ellen Harris and Sister Ruth Banet, OLVM. Mass of Resurrection is 11:00 a.m. Monday August 18, 2008 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 4500 S. Fairfield Avenue Fort Wayne, Indiana with calling one hour prior, Rev. Daryl Rybicki officiating. There is also calling from 2 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Mungovan and Sons Memorial Chapel, 2214 S. Calhoun St. with a prayer service at 4:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial is at 11:00 am Tuesday August 19 at the Ancilla Domini Convent Chapel, Donaldson, Indiana, with calling from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday August 18 at the Convent Chapel, Evensong will be at 7:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ Ministry fund, through their Development Office or Masses at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
