Sister Richard Mehal, 86, died at 5:27 p.m. on Wednesday, July 6, 2005, in the Catherine Kasper Home, Donaldson, Indiana, where she had been a resident since her retirement in 2000.
She was born in Dunlo, Pennsylvania, on November 19, 1918, the daughter of George and Mary Singel Mehal.
Sister Richard was a dedicated elementary school teacher from 1940 until her retirement. She taught at St. Anthony’s, Beckemeyer, IL 1940-1946; St. Joseph’s, Mishawaka, IN 1946-1951; Angel Guardian Orphanage, Chicago, IL 1951-1960; St. Boniface’s, Edwardsville, IL 1960-1965; St. Mark’s, Gary, IN 1965-1967; St. Mary’s, Trenton, IL 1967-1993. In 1993 Sister Richard retired from teaching but continued working at St. Mary’s parish until June of 2000 when she went to retire at the Catherine Kasper Home.
She is survived by two sisters, Mary Cechovic of Valparaiso, IN; Dorthy Gustafsan of Michigan City, IN; and several nices and nephews.
Visitation will be from 4:30 to 9 p.m. on Friday July 8, 2005, in the Catherine Kasper Home Chapel.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday July 9, 2005, in the Catherine Kasper Home Chapel. The Reverand Father Edward Konerman, S.J.’ will officiate.
Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Donaldson.
