Plymouth

Thomas R. Wruble, age 80 (a proud octogenarian), of Plymouth, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Resurrection Sunday, April 20, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones.

Tom was born on January 15, 1945 in South Bend, Indiana to Marion and Alice (DeClercq) Wruble. He was a devoted, loving husband, father, and grandfather who lived a life marked by faith demonstrated through good works (James 2:18). Tom graduated from Washington High School in South Bend in 1963, and went on to complete his associates degree in accounting at South Bend College of Commerce . He then married Linda Krug on August 28, 1965; together they created nearly sixty years of memories raising their children, Aimee and Christy, and watching their families grow. He taught his family to love time together through family vacations, attending every grandchild’s events, and large family gatherings, where he was always the life of the party.

Tom spent 42 years working in corporate accounting and finance, originally at McGill Manufacturing Company in Culver, Indiana, and eventually transitioning to Emerson Electric in Valparaiso, Indiana, where he was known for his determination, work ethic, and pride in being the first one in every morning, being sure to make the coffee. He also proudly served as a Sergeant in the Army Reserves for 6 years as a young man and carried his sense of duty and honor throughout his life.

Upon his retirement, Tom took his love for hard work and people in need and applied it and many hours to volunteering, first and foremost to Bread of Life Food Pantry, where he drove trucks, helped to manage clients’ coming and going in the parking lot, and added his ever-present passion for technology to the good works done there. He also deeply enjoyed his role as a respite care provider for The Center for Hospice Care, the organization that in turn blessed him so well at the end of his life. He was a faithful member and elder of Christ’s Church at Plymouth for many years, and more recently was active at Plymouth Wesleyan Church. Wherever Tom was, he gave generously of his time and heart.

Tom is survived by Linda Wruble, his beloved wife and his best girl since they were both just 15 years old; his children Aimee (David) Portteus, Christina (Matthew) Isger; grandchildren Josiah (Jaime) Portteus, Ella Portteus, Libbie (Wes) Gaylor, Abigail Isger, Anna Isger, Mattie Isger, and Esther Isger; and siblings Timothy Wruble, Terrance (Deborah) Wruble, and Kathryn Hillebrand. He was preceded in death by his parents Marion and Alice Wruble and his parents-in-law, Tom and Mary Krug.

Tom will be remembered for his wisdom, his wonderfully silly sense of humor, and his uncanny ability to create a spreadsheet for just about everything. Above all, he will be cherished for his deep love of lifelong learning—especially from the Scriptures—and his joy in sharing that knowledge with others and loving his family well. His legacy lives on in the hearts and lives of all those he touched.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2025 from 11AM – 1PM at Plymouth Wesleyan Church, 11203 Michigan Rd, Plymouth, IN 46563. Funeral Services will immediately follow at 1PM with Pastor Chris Taylor officiating.

Memorial contributions can be directed to the Center for Hospice Care, 1419 N. Michigan Street, Plymouth, IN 46563 or to the Bread of Life Food Pantry, P.O. Box 424, Plymouth, IN 46563.
