Tony “The Boss” Ross, 54, passed away unexpectedly on October 19, 2024 leaving a void in the heart of those who had the privilege to know and love him. The son of Michael and Diana (Barker) Ross, Tony was born on March 9, 1970. Tony’s life was one marked by passion, dedication, and a deep commitment to his community.
Tony began his journey in radio as a high school intern at WKVI in Knox, igniting a career that would span decades. After graduating from Knox Community High School in 1988, he proudly earned a Bachelor’s degree in Communications from Purdue University. Over the next two decades, he poured his heart into his work at WTCA in Plymouth, before bringing his talents to MAX 98.3FM in 2015. His love for broadcasting was evident as he hosted his own morning show, served as general sales manager, and most notably, took pride in being the voice of sports for local schools. Tony truly embodied the spirit of loving what you do, and his joy in sharing local events with the community was palpable.
On September 15, 2007, Tony married Jennifer DeMont at Plymouth Wesleyan Church. Their 16 years of marriage were filled with countless cherished memories and a loving bond that extended to Jennifer's daughters, whom he embraced as his own. Though he held the title of stepfather, he was, in every sense of the word, a devoted second dad, always cheering them on and supporting them through every milestone.
Those fortunate enough to call Tony a friend knew he was a beacon of compassion and kindness. His heart was truly made of gold, resonating with joy and warmth to everyone around him. Outside of the radio studio, his playful spirit shone through, characterized by his silly sense of humor and charismatic presence. In his leisure time, he found happiness in singing karaoke or enjoying a relaxed round of golf.
A man of strong faith, Tony learned from a young age the importance of helping others. This guiding principle was evident in his daily interactions, always extending a welcoming hand to local organizations in his studio to raise awareness and aid those in need. His commitment to service left a lasting impact on the community he cherished deeply.
Tony’s faith was a cornerstone of his life, nurtured from his childhood at Round Lake Church in Knox. He was a longstanding member of Plymouth Wesleyan Church, where he shared his love of music as part of the praise team, and he also attended services at Grace Baptist Church.
While we mourn the loss of Tony, we celebrate a life filled with love, laughter, and unwavering devotion to family and community. He will be deeply missed, but his legacy of kindness and joy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
