Virginia May Smith, 89, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at Miller’s Merry Manor, Culver.
Born on April 2, 1934, in East Chicago, Indiana, she was the daughter of Walter Kolisz and Charlotte (Ryktarczyk) Frankowski. She attended Washington High School, East Chicago, graduating with the class of 1952.
On July 10, 1954, in Hammond, Indiana Charles Smith and Virginia Kolisz were married. Charles preceded her in death on February 7, 2011. For over fifty years Camper’s Roost Campground, located in Marshall County has been in the family.
A woman that was very much loved that had a very strong work ethic that was a wonderful caregiver and caretaker to so many. She enjoyed playing Bingo, lottery tickets and traveling to Las Vegas. Virginia absolutely adored her grandchildren.
She is survived by her children: Kathleen (Mark) McClelland, Dennis Smith, Charlene McClelland, and Darrin P. Smith, grandchildren: Tisa (Jeff) Fisher, Stacia (Rob) Penrod, Nikki (Dave) Oberly, Michael (Andrea) Smith, Jennifer (Adam) Garling, Jake Smith and Kane Smith, 13-great-grandchildren; brother-in-law Louie Kolbus, cousin Judy Lemon, sister-in-law Mary Ellen Geniusz.
Virginia is preceded in death by her parents, husband Charles J. Smith, son Charles M. Smith, sister Emily Kolbus and brothers: Edward and Ronald Kolisz.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 15, 2024, from 5-7 pm at Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan Street, Plymouth, IN 46563. Visitation will resume on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at 10:00 am at St. Micheal’s Catholic Church, 612 N Walnut St, Plymouth, IN 46563. A funeral mass will immediately follow with Fr. Fernando Jimenez officiating.
