William F. “Bill” Potthoff, 61, Plymouth, having moved here five years ago from Knox, died of natural causes at his residence, 215 Water St., on Thursday, December 7, 2000 at 6 p.m.
Bill was born in Chicago, on August 6, 1939. He was the son of Robert C., Sr., and Elizabeth M. Underhill Potthoff. He attended St. Sabrina School and CVS High School in Chicago.
After a year in the National Guard, Bill served overseas for four years in the United States Navy.
On March 27, 1980, in Tampa, Fla., Bill and Helen Pranger were married. Helen died a little over a month ago on October 26, 2000.
Bill’s work history began as a sales representative for American States Insurance.
He was the former owner of Bill’s Restaurant, later Bill’s Pool Hall, both of Knox and recently worked in Plymouth as a pool hall attendant.
A former driver for Himes Cab Company of Plymouth, Bill loved hunting and fishing at Langenbahn and Hart’s Lakes.
He was a member of St. Sabrina’s Roman Catholic Church in Chicago and a former member of the Knox Moose Lodge.
Bill is survived by two sons and a daughter. They are: William F. and Kathy Potthoff, Knox, Charles F. Potthoff, North Judson and Sherry L. Miller, Monterey.
Six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive together with three brothers and two sisters. The brothers are: Hugh E. Potthoff, Niles, Mich., Thomas A. Potthoff, Chicago, James J. Potthoff, Monterey. His sisters, both of Rochester, Ind., are Jeannie S. Winstead and Kathleen M. Fisher.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Helen and a daughter, Christy, who died in 1972. A brother, Robert C. Potthoff, Jr., died in 1980.
Friends may visit with the family on Sunday, December 10, 2000, from 3 to 4 p.m. in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.
Funeral services will follow visitation at 4 p.m. in the funeral home.
Burial will be in St. Michael’s Cemetery, Plymouth.
