Zola F. Roach Collins, 79, a Plymouth resident from 1945 to 1966, died at 10:50 a.m., following an illness, on Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2001. She died at her residence, #2 Sandy Point, Lake Placid, Florida, where she had lived since 1994, moving there from Elkhart, her residence for 28 years after leaving Plymouth. Zola died in the loving care of her family and the Good Shepherd Hospice.
Born in Rochester, Ind., on March 24, 1921, she was the daughter of Leslie “Ray” and Nellie McHenry Prill. She attended school in Rochester and Logansport and graduated from Ft. Wayne Southside in 1939.
On Feb. 2, 1942, in Logansport, Zola was married to John R. Roach. John died in 1958. On Feb. 18, 1966, in Plymouth, she and William H. Collins were married.
From 1959 to 1966, she worked as a receptionist in the office of Drs. Kubley and Robertson. She had also worked as a sales clerk in Bosworth’s Home Shop.
She enjoyed sewing, golf, bowling and fine needlework.
Zola was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Plymouth.
In addition to her husband, Zola is survived by a daughter, Karen and Jerry Bottorff of Fernandina Beach, Fla. A step-daughter and a step-son survive as well. They are Linda D. Scherer, Goshen, Ind., and Steven L. Collins, Arlington, Va.
Two grandchildren, Daniel John and Andrew James Bottorff also survive together with four step-grandchildren: Kelli Squires, Karri Scherer, Matthew and Nicole Collins.
Also surviving is a great-grandson, Andrew Boles Bottorff and a step-great-grandson, Jared Squires. A special niece, Sue Kay and Bill Smith, Plymouth, survives as well.
Zola was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, four brothers and four sisters.
Visitation with the family will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 11, 2001, in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.
Funeral services for Zola will be on Monday, Feb. 12, 2001 at 2 p.m. in the funeral home. The Rev. Larry Houseman, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, will officiate.
Burial will be in New Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth.
